DIFFERENT EDITIONS OF JAVA

The java platform editions contain the additional Java APIs for creating different types of Application:

1.Java Standard Edition(J2SE)  
The Java SE is for developing the developing the desktop Applications and Applets. These Applications typically serve only a small number of users at one time.  

2.Java Enterprise Edition(J2EE)
The Java EE is tailored for the more complex Applications to suit medium to large Business. Typically they will be Server-based-Applications focusing on  serving the needs of lots users at one time.

3.Java Micro Edition(J2ME)
The Java ME is for Applications used on tablet, mobile and embedded devices(e.g., Set of box, Tv tuner box, printers).
